Coastal Modern Bedroom - Shop the Look
So many people use the terms “coastal” and “beachy” interchangeably however in the design world, they are most definitely different. Coastal exudes a relaxed, welcoming, and natural vibe while beachy conjures memories of shell motifs and “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” signs. It’s not that flip-flop paintings and “life’s a beach” signs don’t have their place, it’s just that it doesn’t always invoke a sense of serenity and sophistication.
A bedroom is one of those rooms that really deserves a calming atmosphere. By utilizing calming colors, soft textures, and natural fibers, you can create a serene and sophisticated sanctuary.
In this week’s Shop the Look, we present a Coastal Modern bedroom complete with art, textiles, and furniture - all for less than $3300 (as of the time this was written)!
This midcentury modern bed from West Elm is a great blend of clean modern lines and the relaxed organic feel of the coastal style. It keeps things simple yet inviting but doesn’t feel boring.
The cane inlay on these white and cane bedside tables provides that Bahamian feel while the crisp white and brass accents keep it feeling modern and clean. Not to mention they provide great storage which is always a plus.
There are few textiles that feel more coastal than jute. This jute rug with fringe has a nice balance of rugged and feminine due to the combination of raw material and the white fringe.
These white vegan leather x stools are sleek and stylish while still feeling relaxed and comfortable. They would look great at the foot of the bed or anywhere you need extra seating. Using them in a guest bedroom? They make a perfect luggage rack.
By hanging one of these rattan pendants on either side of the bed, the style of the room is instantly elevated while still feeling coastal and cozy. The shape of the shade provides a focused light which is perfect for creating a calming mood at night.
There is something so calming and clean about white linens. This white duvet set from West Elm is soft and inviting and the channeled texture feels both modern and calm.
While I may not have the greenest thumb in the world, there is one plant I have had great success with. A live snake plant brings in the beauty of nature while mimicking the lines of marsh grasses. Not to mention snake plants are very low maintenance and don’t require tons of natural light. This one is nice and large and the terra cotta planter continues the natural vibe of the room.
A throw at the end of the bed always ups the cozy factor of a bedroom. This taupe striped blanket feels very natural and neutral, coordinating with the natural tones of the rug, furniture, and lights while providing enough contrast to the white linens to add visual interest.
This T color block pillow and circle color block pillow add a neutral toned yet modern punch of color and pattern to the space. The natural texture of the pillows is a nice contrast to the smooth feel of the vegan leather stools and cloud-like nature of the duvet set.
Yes, blue can be a neutral. These 24x24 blue pillows provide a calming neutral backdrop to the color block pillows while still incorporating a pop of coastal color.
This Shore print from Juniper Print Shop is available in many different sizes as well as in a digital download format. For this scenario, I chose the affordable 16x20 size and a thin gold frame with white matte from Target. The print is a calming coastal scene and incorporates the colors found in the rest of the room and the gold frame provides a bit of shimmer and coordinates with the pulls on the bedside tables.
By keeping the room light and neutral with clean lines and natural textures, the overall sense is inviting and relaxed without feeling bland.
What are some of your favorite elements of the room? Do you prefer matching furniture sets or piecing things together? Let me know in the comments!
