What I Bought vs. How I Styled It - Halloween
Decorating for the holidays can be tricky. The decorations you loved 10 years ago look so…10 years ago. And you don’t want to buy a bunch of things that will take up valuable storage space for the other ~42 weeks of the year.
In this edition of What I Bought vs. How I Styled It, I’ll share some of the items I bought for Halloween this year. None of them are huge or expensive and some can even be used year-round!
First up are these small feathered crows. Place them somewhere unexpected and give people the feeling they are being watched. Instant Edgar Allan Poe vibes!
There is something about candlelight that instantly says “spooky” (or romantic but this is a Halloween post so work with me, people!). These candles are a great addition to the Halloween repertoire. They are more ominous than your traditional white tapered candle and remain black as they melt (aka they aren’t white in the middle).
There are few things that say Halloween quite like bones. And somehow finding random bones seems almost creepier than a complete skeleton. Finding those bones in a functional position? Creepy. And finding those bones in a functional position on your plate? Well, that’s creepy enough for me! Extra points if you get enough bones that you can share some with each guest.
These plates by Jungalow with Opalhouse from Target are no longer available in black but are available in white. The black bowls are still available…if I don’t buy them all first!
A few years ago, I drew and cut out bats out of poster board. I wish I had instead found these bats. I would have saved a tree and my hand. These can be used over and over again and won’t tear every time you try to reposition them (pro tip, use painters tape to save your walls). I styled them coming in our front door, going up the stairwell, and flying into the open second floor of our living room. My daughter had a great time helping with the placement…and I had a great time going behind her and changing their positions :)
I’m not going to lie, I saw these 3 black vases and loved them…long before I started thinking about Halloween. The shapes feel midcentury modern yet tribal and trust me, they will be used for more than just Halloween decor! Spray paint some plants from the yard black (I chose pampas grass) and you’ve got yourself a Morticia Addams bouquet! Add some creepy vintage photos (I found this ghostly one on Etsy for $3!) and some leftover hands in a glass jar to really set the mood!
So there you have it. A handful of cheap and easy Halloween decor options. And if all else fails, you can always spray paint random objects black and call it a day!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
