No-Sew Pinch Pleat Curtains Hack

Finding curtains that are just the right length can seem almost impossible. And having drapes custom-made can be cost prohibitive. Try sewing them yourself? Well, let’s just say my grandmother would roll over in her grave if she saw my attempts at using a sewing machine.

So what’s the solution? No-sew pinch pleat curtains! All you need is the fabric of your choice, iron-on hem tape, an iron, a standard stapler, and curtain rings with clips.

Step 1: Cut fabric to desired length +2” (1” for top seam and 1” for bottom).

Step 2: Fold fabric and iron to make a crease. You will want to make sure the crease forms a right angle to the edge of the fabric. I use a framing square to start this. If the fabric has a pattern, you can use the pattern as a visual guide.

Step 3: Fuse fabric with iron-on hem tape. Follow manufacturer’s instructions as each type is slightly different.

Step 4: Repeat for all sides.

Step 5: Hang curtains. You will want to pinch the curtain as seen in the picture below in specific increments (those increments will depend on how wide your fabric is and how wide your space is).

Step 6: Staple curtains in 2-3 places below each clip. This will create a pleat and keep the curtain’s shape.

That’s it! It’s seriously that easy! So what are you waiting for?! Go make those curtains!
